Science Problem Solving

Problem #1: Newton's Second Law

A force of 50N is applied to a mass of 10kg. Calculate the acceleration of the object.

Using F = ma:

a = F/m = 50N/10kg = 5 m/s²

Therefore, the acceleration is 5 meters per second squared.

Problem #2: Ohm's Law

In a circuit with a voltage of 12V and a resistance of 3Ω, what is the current?

Using V = IR:

I = V/R = 12V/3Ω = 4A

Therefore, the current is 4 amperes.

Problem #3: Thermodynamics - Heat Transfer

A metal bar of mass 2kg at 80°C is placed in water at 20°C. If the specific heat capacity of the metal is 450 J/kg°C, calculate the heat energy transferred when the metal reaches equilibrium with the water.

Using Q = mc∆T:

Q = 2kg × 450 J/kg°C × (20°C - 80°C)

Q = -54,000 J

The negative sign indicates heat is lost by the metal. The heat energy transferred is 54,000 Joules.

Problem #4: Electricity - Capacitor Charge

A 470µF capacitor is connected to a 12V power supply. Calculate the charge stored in the capacitor.

Using Q = CV:

Q = 470 × 10^-6 F × 12V

Q = 5.64 × 10^-3 C

Therefore, the charge stored is 5.64 millicoulombs.
