Experiment 1: Determination of Surface Tension

Objective:

To determine the surface tension of water using the capillary rise method.

Equipment Required:

  • Capillary tube
  • Beaker
  • Scale
  • Distilled water

Procedure:

1 Clean the capillary tube thoroughly with chromic acid.
2 Fill the beaker with distilled water.
3 Clamp the capillary tube vertically in the beaker.

Experiment 2: Titration of Oxalic Acid

Objective:

To determine the concentration of oxalic acid solution by titrating it against standard KMnO₄ solution.

Caution: KMnO₄ can cause skin stains and burns. Handle with care.

Equipment Required:

  • Burette
  • Conical flask
  • Measuring cylinder
  • Solutions

Lab Rules

  • No eating or drinking
  • No running or horseplay
  • Keep workspace clean
  • Report accidents immediately

Lab work accounts for 25% of your final grade:
